Patriots Assistant Bill O’Brien is ready to take on Penn State’s work

Penn State is poised to hire New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to succeed the legendary football coach Joe Paterno.

ESPN was the first reported Thursday night that the announcement would come Thursday. O’Brien was interviewed in State College on Thursday. The NFL Network reported that the interview went so well O’Brien lived on Friday.

United States today is the first to report that O’Brien would interview Thursday. Someone with knowledge of the search for the United States today confirmed late Thurdsay that O’Brien would be hired.

The school has been without a permanent coach since 9 November after Paterno dismissed child sex abuse scandals involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. Tom Bradley served as interim coach of the Nittany Lions down three of their final four games, including a 30-14 loss to Houston in a bowl TicketCity on Monday.

O’Brien joined the staff of Patriots in 2007 and worked on his way to his current position this season. New England finished third in scoring at points a game and entered the playoffs 32.1 as the AFC’s top seed.
