Audubon’s said the Hornbill is … conservation

On the occasion of a short I did for a weekend broadcast, announcing the Audubon California BOTY contest (Hornbill), I would like to call out a few things that I don’t have time to put into the story.

If You do not know about the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website, You absolutely have to. They have a page for all types of birds, not just prospective BOTY, but to birds of the world. And they have a voice to hundreds of birds! Including the air we have heard on KPCC.

Next, I would like to see a little more closely at the Cal Audubon previous winners. What it takes to run a successful campaign?

The first year, the answer is, get threatened by climate change. 2009 winner, Yellow-billed Magpie, have seen many common threats. They are included, according to the Audubon’s website, “loss of habitat, the use of pesticides and West Nile Virus

The two-year-old winner, BOTY Barn Owl, won as a chosen people. “Nearly 70 percent of voters to write in the Barn Owl, make it a winner
